Judge a Book by its Cover.

During my weeks holiday from work I decided, in an attempt to spend less time on my MacBook, to read books. One of the only things I miss about commuting is the two-hours of uninterrupted time with a book.
I noticed whilst commuting and wonder now with Kindles and audiobooks how many people still buy books? I've been known (only by the best pal in the world) to buy nine or ten books from a charity shop in one day - there is no other single person on the planet I would reveal my inner nerd too like I did that day.
My grandma used to say - "the greatest gift is a passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination". She found it in an authors note in a book by Elizabeth Hardwick, who was an American literary critic and novelist.
So, whilst I understand the ease of audiobooks and e-books - I often think that it can lose the magic of a story - your imagination and ideas of characters can be lost and simply the most satisfying thing about reading a  book - page turners.

I am definitely not a book snob, whilst I've read some truly terrible books, I try and finish reading something if I start it.

On that note - here are some of my favourite ever books:

Harry Potter - J.K Rowling
P.S. I Love You - Ceclia Ahern
The Time Travelers Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
Dear John - Nicholas Sparks
Lord of the Flies -William Golding
Blindsighted - Karin Slaughter
The Devil Wears Prada -  Lauren Weisberger

  1. Anyone who didn't know you as well as I may think you've actually only seen the films! However I remember that day in Beverley fondly/with a laugh/slightly worried for your mental health :D
